New research proves why leaving the powdered herbs in Essiac Tea supports the body’s immune system and gut health like no other

Genuine Essiac's Powdered Herbs, the Same as Rene Caisse Used, Are the Absolute Best Kind for Gut Health

Most brands of Essiac have you prepare the tea with whole herbs and then strain them out. However, did you know that Rene Caisse always used powdered herbs, and she never strained them? And there is a particular reason for that, which most people don't know.

The Ojibway People Shared the Essiac Tea Formula and How to Prepare it with Rene Caisse

The Ojibway people used Essiac tea long before Rene Caisse even knew about it. They are an indigenous group that live in the area north of the Great Lakes, USA. In their culture nothing is left to waste, which is why they used grinding stones to pulverize the herbs they used to make tea. And the results from Essiac tea prepared in this manner were so astounding that Nurse Caisse couldn’t help but take note.

Rene Caisse first heard about Essiac tea from a patient who happened to be staying in the hospital where she was working. This woman overcame Breast Cancer using Essiac, and after learning of her story, Rene Caisse realized that she needed to learn more about this miraculous herbal blend that was made from finely powdered herbs.

Why does leaving powdered herbs in the Essiac tea matter?

Well, there are a couple of reasons.

  • For one, there are medicinal compounds in these herbs that can’t be extracted from the plant no matter how many times the whole herb is boiled.
  • Secondly, powdered herbs provide fiber to the body when ingested. That fiber does wonders for our health, especially when taken three times per day.

Uncovering the Numerous Benefits of Fiber to the Body

There was a study published by Dr. Andrew Reynolds in The Lancet on February 2, 2019 that you need to know about. Dr. Reynolds analyzed 185 prospective cohort studies encompassing 135 million person-years of data. The study also included fifty-eight randomized controlled trials. This is the highest-quality study that has ever been done of its kind and the goal was to examine the effects of dietary fiber on human health.1

The results of this study showed that those who consumed more dietary fiber:

  • Lived longer.
  • Were less likely to have a heart attack.
  • Were less likely to die of heart disease.
  • Were less likely to be diagnosed with colon, esophageal, or breast cancer.
  • Were less likely to die of any type of cancer.
  • Were less likely to have a stroke.
  • Were less likely to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
  • Lost weight during clinical trials.
  • Reduced their blood pressure during clinical trials.
  • Lowered their cholesterol levels during clinical trials.

On this list, you will see health conditions represented ranging from the number one killer of humans currently (heart disease) to the number seven killer (diabetes). 2 So these findings on what fiber can do in the body are a pretty big deal! Fiber can help some of the most vexing health problems we have today as a society. How empowering is that?

More Fiber, More Benefit for Gut Health Especially

The other important finding from this research is that the more dietary fiber was consumed, the greater the health benefits were. Each serving of Essiac tea contains around 2.5 grams of fiber, and when taken three times per day that’s going to add a hearty boost to your daily totals. But even more critically then the total amount of fiber Essiac provides, it’s the timing of the fiber from Essiac that has the potential to help the body even more.

Where Essiac Provides a Distinct Competitive Advantage

Normally the only time we consume fiber is during meals. But Essiac provides a healthy dose of fiber in between meals. This allows the fiber to sweep through the intestines without food getting in the way. It’s a unique benefit to using Genuine Essiac tea.

However, fiber’s purpose goes far beyond just sweeping through the intestines to perform a clean up job. It plays a critical role in the health of our gut microbiota, which as the microorganisms that live in our digestive tracts. They are a critical component of our health, and in particular our immune health.

Our gut microbes are living organisms in their own right, and they possess specialized enzymes that humans lack. Their presence in the colon means they can help your body deconstruct the types of fiber that don’t pass through the same way they came in. In doing so, the microbes help create powerful anti-inflammatory molecules that your body can use for good. These molecules, known as acetate, propionate, and butyrate are types of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). They play a variety of critical roles in human health.

Here are some of the roles SCFAs perform in our body:

  • They enhance the growth of good bacteria like Lactobacilli, Bifidobacteria, and Prevotella.
  • They suppress bad bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella.
  • Butyrate specificially serves as the principal source of energy for healthy colon cells.
  • They increase the expression of tight junction proteins lining the colon, reducing intestinal permeability and effectively reversing "leaky gut."
  • An absence of short-chain fatty acids has been detected in those with colorectal cancer, which is our second most deadly form of cancer.
  • Cancer cells are hypersensitive to SCFAs and will program themselves for destruction in a process called apoptosis (cell death) when met with SCFAs.
  • SCFAs inhibit inflammatory signaling molecules and activate regulatory T cells to optimize the immune system.
  • They reduce blood pressure, lower cholesterol, enhance insulin sensitivity, and activate satiety hormones so that we can detect when we are full.
  • Patients with symptomatic coronary artery disease have been found to have depleted levels of butyrate-producing gut bacteria.
  • SCFAs alter breast cancer cells and appear to make them less invasive.
  • SCFAs also have shown to be relevant in multiple studies involving the immune system. When keeping in mind 70 percent of the immune system lines the intestines, the importance of SCFAs becomes easy to understand.2

Gut Microbiomes and their intimate connection with the Immune System

In 2021 researchers compared the gut microbiome of those with COVID-19 to healthy controls and described their findings in the Journal Gut. They found that people with COVID-19 were harboring more inflammatory microbes and their bodies were missing sufficient anti-inflammatory microbes. These changes became more pronounced as COVID-19 severity got worse, correlated with inflammation in the body, and persisted even after the infection cleared.

The microbes missing in sufficient quantity in those with severe COVID-19 included:

  • Faecalibacterium prausnizii
  • Eubacterium rectale
  • Bifidobacteria (all of which increase butyrate production).

In another study focused on dietary fiber, scientists saw that when mice were fed a high-fiber diet they lived longer, had less severe symptoms, and had better lung function after a respiratory virus infection.3 In this study, the original worry was that because fiber is anti-inflammatory it would suppress the immune system, allowing the virus to have a free-for-all. Instead, the findings implicated that the dietary fiber activated gut microbes to produce the SCFAs that optimized the immune system to fight the virus. In other words, butyrate boosted antiviral immunity in the right spots to fight the good fight all while reducing any excess inflammation.

Finding the sweet spot with inflammation

This is an example of how Essiac can reduce inflammation where it’s harmful but not result in an overkill where the entire immune system is prevented from doing it's job. You see, if you reduce any and all inflammation globally in the body, you reduce healing potential, too. The goal should be only to reduce the harmful inflammation. The fiber in Essiac helps it work selectively in the body, reducing the harmful inflammation while leaving the immune system intact. And that's a great big win!

Want even more evidence of the importance of fiber? A June 2021 study of frontline healthcare workers living in six countries found 73 percent lower odds of having moderate to severe COVID-19 among those eating a plant-based diet high in fiber.4 There was also a 48 percent greater chance of severe COVID-19 in those consuming a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet. The low-carb consumers were nearly four times more likely to have moderate to severe COVID-19 compared to the plant-based crowd! That’s a huge difference and one that you don't want to miss out on.

So it’s pretty clear by now that healthy humans need to have adequate amounts of SCFAs in their lives. It’s non-negotiable. Remember, we get SCFAs from consuming fiber, of which Genuine Essiac is a good source.

The other important thing to know is that all fiber isn’t one in the same. Fiber is incredibly biochemically complex - so complex, in fact, that even biochemists can struggle to describe and differentiate each unique form of fiber. That’s why plant diversity is the name of the game - by simply consuming a varied diet, you will hit all of your fiber bases without needing to know the science behind what you are consuming.

Fiber 101: What All Humans Need to Know About Their Food

I can help with your understanding by sharing some simple rules to know about fiber.

  • Fiber exists in all types of plants: for example, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, nuts, legumes and herbs.
  • Fiber can be described either as either soluble (meaning that it dissolves in water) or insoluble (it doesn't dissolve in water).
  • Most soluble fiber is considered to be a prebiotic, which means that it serves as food for our gut microbes and in turn leads to a myriad of health benefits.
  • Each different plant has its own unique mix of both soluble and insoluble types of fiber which feed diverse families of microbes.

Feed Your Microbes, Feed Your Health

These microbes are living creatures and they need sustenance to survive. Because they exisit in our colon, our food ends up being their food. Just like other living creatures, they have their own dietary preferences on what they eat. Some of these valuable microbes prefer chickpeas while others prefer bananas. The ones that get fed grow stronger and their population in our gut increases. The ones who aren't fed begin to starve, become weaker, and eventually die off.

The cool thing is, we are able to influence which microbes live and which die with our dietary choices. But it's really too complex to try to pick specific types of plants to eat for a specific purpose. What we ultimately want for our gut is biodiversity. Because Essiac tea contains eight different plants, you are getting eight different prebiotic profiles covered three times per day without even having to think about it.

We can all have a thriving ecosystem inside our guts - if we take the time to feed it

Diversity of plant matter is so incredibly important because our gut is an ecosystem. What we find in all ecosystems is that biodiversity equates to strength. A diverse ecosystem is resilient and adaptable. Using the animal kingdom as an example, if you remove snakes, sharks or bees from an ecosystem, it might seem like a good idea at first. But unfortunately by doing that you will create a void that other animals aren't designed to fulfill - and the entire system will eventually fall apart.

The same goes for our gut microbiota - we want a biodiverse ecosystem for maximum stability. This is because each microbe brings its own set of skills to the table. When there is a loss of diversity, there is instability within the system. As the American Gut Project found, the single most powerful predictor of a biodiverse gut microbiota was the diversity of plants in the diet.5

Are you one of the few people who consumes 30 different plants per week?

Specifically, this scientific investigation found a particular advantage when thirty or more different plants were consumed per week. I recommend keeping a chart and adding each type of plant you have consumed to make it to thirty. Essiac will knock off eight of them for you right off the bat. (➡️ Click here to download your free weekly plant chart now)

If you think that you must be getting all 30 without too much trouble, I suggest that you double check. 95 percent of Americans are not even getting the bare minimum recommended amount of fiber in their diets. The average daily adult fiber intake is 15.6 grams for women and 18.6 grams for men. This pales in comparison to the minimum recommended amount which is 25 grams per day for women and 38 grams for men. And that's a minimum!

We are the most fiber-deprived society of the modern era, and there are no signs of it letting up. Enter Genuine Essiac tea made from powdered herbs, just like Rene Caisse did, and you can boost your fiber intake automatically without too much extra thought or effort. Even though you aren’t eating food when you drink Essiac, you are providing your gut microbes with a valued snack. Cheers to that!
