Does Essiac Tea Go Bad?
You may be wondering if essiac tea goes bad, whether you're thinking about the herbs themselves or the liquid tea.
Let's start with the Herbs - Do Essiac Herbs Go Bad?
Essiac powdered herbs, the very same kind Rene Caisse used, stay fresh for 2 years when stored in a relatively cool, dark place. Anyplace where a person can live, the herbs can live too! You just want to keep them out of direct sunlight and away from blowing heaters. A kitchen cabinet works well.
Keep the herbs in the same food safe packaging that they arrived in. If you don't use all of the bag at once, you can tie it shut with a twist-tie such as what you receive when you buy a loaf of bread.
There is no benefit to buying a small supply of herbs frequently so that they stay fresh - buying a year or even a 2 year supply is perfectly fine and will save you money. Click here to see our Value Collection.
What About the Brewed Essiac Tea - How Long Does That Stay Fresh?
Brewed essiac tea stays fresh when stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks. You can store it in the type of pitcher you'd use for iced tea - it doesn't have to be anything fancy.
We recommend using an open top pitcher so that you can easily stir the tea before pouring each serving. By stiring the tea right before pouring, you will more evenly disperse the herbs so that you get some into each and every serving.
Once again, there is no benefit to preparing a smaller amount of essiac more often so that it's "fresher." It works the same as long as you use it up by the 2-3 week mark. At the most common usage level for one adult, this means you'll go through a gallon of essiac once every two weeks. Our convenient 4 oz. packets make one gallon with no measuring or weighing required!
