I’ve been drinking this tea for 6 years now and have enjoyed it. I’ve noticed the last 3 orders I have received some of the packets have hard clumps in them and they don’t dissolve. I’ve tried mashing them to break them up but some won’t break up. I’ve also noticed that at times there is a different taste. One packet was like something spicy was mixed in. I couldn’t drink it. I’m a breast cancer and started Essiac Tea when I was diagnosed and continue to drink it today.

The lumps are expected from time to time and that is when batches of burdock root are extra fresh. Normally customers are able to break them up with their fingers and/or they naturally break up during the boiling process. Even though our mixing machine breaks them up, they can reclump during transit. It won’t affect the performance of the tea.
Here’s an explanation of why each batch of essiac tea can have a different taste, texture and appearance.
Minimally processed, preservative free herbs are always going to be different from batch to batch because different growing seasons can change the taste, texture and appearance of the herbs (sometimes dramatically).
The effectiveness of the herbs doesn’t change from season to season even though the appearance, taste and texture often do.
Minimally processed, preservative free herbs are expected to change because of the influence of different climate conditions on the taste, texture and appearance. It’s completely normal and an indication that the herbs are grown without unnecessary processing.
There’s an old saying regarding herbs that says, “Bitter is Better” because bitter herbs are known for having the most beneficial properties. Higher moisture content during certain growing seasons can intensify bitterness.
That said, the herbs will not always be bitter with every batch because sometimes the taste properties of the other herbs overwhelm the bitterness. Some batches are really bitter and some batches are not but the tea is equally as effective either way.
In order to improve taste and texture, you can add natural fruit and vegetable juice to essiac tea after pouring out your appropriate serving. Add as much juice as necessary to improve taste to your liking. Most people prefer lemon juice.
