Cancer Practitioner Spotlight: Dr. Joe Brown, Licensed Medical Physician, Naturopathic Doctor

I went straight from High School into College, with the emphasis on I wanted to help people. I didn't know exactly how that would be, or what profession I seen myself in until I was diagnosed with late stage III/IV cancer when I was 22 years old and in college doing my undergrad work. I took 2 years off when I was going through my cancer battle. And after my Medical Oncologists gave up on me, told me I had 3 to 4 weeks to live at best......well, I didn't know what to do. 

My family and I started searching for anything that could help, not knowing who to call, where to look, nor what to do. As I read, and we searched I stumbled onto Naturopathic and Alternative Medicine, Supplements, Therapies and Immune Treatments. I started treating myself using and utilizing anyone and anything we came across. It consisted of a lot of Alternative Treatments, a lot of Supplements, even more fresh Juicing at home (I juiced so much my skin turned orange) and a lot of Prayer to Jesus. Within 2 months, I got my first set of blood work back. It showed that things were improving and my immune system was better. A scan a couple months later showed my cancer was gone!

It was this experience that showed me exactly who I was going to become, what I was going to do and how I was going to do it. I look at it like it was God's way of showing me exactly what my path was going to be. Many people search their entire lives for who and what they are and will become. Looking back on it, my destiny was planned out and laid out for me. 

I went back to University. I finished my bachelors degree in Biology faster than average by taking 3 times the normal class load, with an emphasis and degree work for undergrad Medicine. I graduated with honors from Arizona State University with Honors, Cum Laude. 

I immediately applied to the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, a 4 year accredited Naturopathic Medical School by the State of Arizona. Over the next 4 years of Medical School, I became Class President for one and half years. I was later voted in by the entire student body of the Medical School and became Student Government President of the entire Medical School, where I served as the liaison between the Student body and the Faculty. As part of my duties, I sat in meetings each week with the President and Chief Executive Officer, Vice President and Dean. 

Upon Graduation, I received many awards. These are including, but not limited to; a Leadership Scholarship, a Community Involvement Award, a $3,000 award for Leadership, and a Certification of Appreciation Award for Alumni Association Ambassador as well as the Outstanding Leadership Award presented by the President of the Medical School himself. 

I was known as the Cancer Doctor before I even graduated Medical School. Many Physicians putting me on their shifts to run their I.V. and injection Program and was helping teach the I.V. and injection class even as a first year student. I was asked why I didn't apply for the Head Residency Physician, because everyone seemed to know that I would have gotten the position if applied. 

I was offered many jobs before I even graduated medical school, or even had my License or degree. Ultimately I received my degree and chose to open up my own office. 

Opportunities began to open up for me. Due to the fact that during my 3rd and 4th year rotations and clinical work I was let in to work in the hospitals and cancer clinics with M.D.'s and Medical Doctors around Arizona who knew of my cancer story, my near death experience, and me then being in Naturopathic Medical School and choosing to work with cancer patients, I was offered positions in the Hospitals, the Operating Room, and the Oncology clinics and hospitals and was chosen above M.D. students who were on waiting lists for these positions and shifts. 

After opening my office, I quickly had patients flying in from all over the U.S. and from other countries. They came from as far away as South Korea, Europe, Germany, the Middle East, China, Mexico, Canada, Iran, Iraq, etc (How people heard of me in Iraq and Iran I will never know, but they flew 10,000 miles to come and sit with me and see me....  AMAZING, really). 

Aside from seeing patients, I lectured all over the valley and was given awards from Channel 3 T.V. - THE SPIRIT AWARD. 104.7 F.M. radio awarded me the KISS A HERO AWARD. Banner Del E. Webb gave a plaque and Thank You letter for my continued Speaking and outreach with their hospital and being a speaker for their 3rd Annual Breast Health Fair. The Melonhead Foundation, a non-profit childrens cancer foundation that helps families with kids diagnosed with cancer who cannot afford their bills, awarded me a Thank You letter for helping and treating many of their children diagnosed with cancer and helping them in their charity and Silent Auctions and Raffles. The owners of Disneyland who have a non-profit organization had me come to both their Black Tie Affair and their Silent Auction due to my consistent and charitable help in the Community.
