What is Essiac? Our Definition.
When we tell people that we have an essiac business, the first question we always get is, "What is essiac?" Simply put, essiac is blend of eight herbs in particular ratios, all of which are known to have immune-boosting, health-promoting properties. When brewed as a tea and consumed, essiac is believed to fortify the immune system and assist the body in purifying itself of toxins. As a result, the body becomes more capable of fighting off illness and disease. Essiac works along with, and enhances, the body's ideal functioning.
Are there any side effects?
The only side effect reported from this tea is that some find they need to go to the bathroom more often than usual in the beginning. This usually lasts just a couple of days and is a welcomed event, as therw would have been some buildup of waste in the colon for the people who experience it. This side effect is not diarrhea; it's simply a comfortable increased frequency of bowel movements - so do not be alarmed.
The Essiac Ingredients.
Essiac contains the following eight herbs:
- blessed thistle
- burdock root
- sheep sorrel
- slippery elm bark
- red clover
- turkish rhubarb root
The formula is a synergistic one, meaning that the combination of the herbs in specific ratios creates a different and more powerful result than taking any one of the herbs on it's own.
Essiac is called a "tea" because it is brewed, but it isn't taken the same way as most hot teas are. It is brewed in a large batch (most typically a gallon) and stored in the refrigerator. The portion consumed is usually 3 oz. at a time, which is just under 1/2 cup liquid measure. It's only a couple of gulps of liquid and it is best to take it cold rather than heat it back up, as that risks overprocessing the blend.
In some health food stores, you will sometimes see essiac being sold under the brand name "Flor Essence." The same eight herbs are found in that formula. Flor Essence is substantially more expensive, which is why many folks find their way to us!
Many people aren't aware that a product can go by the name "essiac" whether it includes four herbs or eight. You want to obtain eight herb essiac. Rene Caisse found in her research that the eight herb tea outperformed all four herb blends and that was her final suggestion on which formula was best to use.

Why Powdered Herbs Are Best
Powdered herbs are made by crushing or pulverizing whole herbs. The resulting herbs look like what you would see inside a tea bag.
Powdered herbs make for a more potent brew. This is because there is more surface area on powdered herbs, which better allows the extracts to seep into the tea. Anything in powdered form mixes easier and more thoroughly.
Furthermore, our powdered herbs are fine enough that they can and should be consumed along with the tea - which is why we don't sell this product in tea bags! If you consume the herb particles in addition to the tea itself just as Rene Caisse recommended (which is only possible when you brew powdered herbs) your body will receive all of the beneficial compounds present in the herbs. We believe so strongly in the powdered form of essiac that we carry only powdered herbs.
We believe so much in the eight herb essiac that refuse to sell anything else.
We have tens of thousands of satisfied customers who are healthy and continue to take eight herb essiac at maintenance dose after their test results have returned to normal. They will attest to the efficacy of eight herb essiac and to the fact that they believe it is superior to four herb blends. Many of these folks tried four herb essiac first since it's so much more common, so they had something to compare it to. The four herb companies don't have the eight herb formula, which is why they are selling the outdated formula. See proof we have the authentic essiac tea formula.
Finally, please know that we test each and every batch to ensure herb quality is at the highest it can be. We only ship herbs of the highest quality to our customers. We drink some from each and every batch ourselves, too!
